Tune of the Varaime

site naturel, grotte

La Tune is a local appellation for a cave. It opens at 1400m above sea level, at the foot of the Varaime cliff. Its interest lies both in its engravings characteristic of linear schematic art (which date back to the end of prehistory) and the use of the cave as a sheepfold in the Neolithic and at the end of the Bronze Age, retracing thus some six millennia of our history. It was classified as a historic monument in 1990. It is one of the most interesting groups of rock art in the Alps.
